ICE DAMS AND ICICLES: We are receiving many calls about leaks due to ice dams. These are caused when the snow on your roof melts and then refreezes at the eaves. Ice dams cause water to back up into your house and leak into the house. Icicles are another symptom of the same problem and put a heavy load on your gutter and cause gutter damage.
The melting snow is caused by heat which escapes from the living area of your house into the attic. It is exacerbated by a lack of ventilation which prevents heat from leaving the attic.
WE CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM: Please contact us for a free consultation. Ice dams are prevented with proper insulation and ventilation, which is designed to equalize interior and exterior roof temperatures so that the snow does not melt and form ice dams. The ice dam forms when the melted snow runs down to the edge of your roof, where it is colder and the water refreezes. Additional water is then trapped behind the dam and finds its way into your house.
Here is an excellent article on the subject of ice dams.
